Mom (2020)

Part of a series based on photos that my grandfather (Stephen Bubalo) took between 1955 and 2010. For the past 10 years, I've been going and scanning in the film negatives that have never been developed into images as well as the thousands of photos that were developed and sitting in boxes in his photo studio. Each image tells a story, some long before my time, and others distant memories of my own. Either way, the images serve as a vehicle and enable us to have in-depth conversations for hours at a time about the stories and memories attached to each blip in time.
This image is of my mom when she was a kid. Nobody that I've talked to knows why she was posed like this or what was happening when the photos was taken. Nevertheless, I just really like this image.
